A Fusion of Sound and Spirit

The latest release by Chicago trio Purelink unveils a mesmerizing blend of fractal ambient, dusted dub tech, and interstitial electronica. Born from a spirit of unity and flux, the music is rooted in the collective ethos of "all hands on the mixer, forever finding the sound." Since their formation in 2020, the trio—Tommy Paslaski (aka Concave Reflection), Ben Paulson (aka kindtree), and Akeem Asani (aka Millia)—have come together in a shared studio to explore new sonic possibilities. Their approach emphasizes collaboration, with the trio regularly swapping samples, experimenting, and honing their collective muse using “the endless possibilities of a laptop.” Their goal? To create something distinctly different from what they might produce individually.

The Evolution of Purelink's Sound

"Signs," the trio's latest work, distills the results of extended compositions crafted and performed over the course of 2022. The album captures their chemistry across performances in Chicago, Kansas City, New York, and Los Angeles. The music unfolds in mutating systems of glitch, glass, rhythm, and space, reflecting the trio's exploration of new sonic realms. Each track is a journey through a landscape of sound that is both liquid and immaterial, a fluid blend of electronic textures that push the boundaries of what music can be.

Subdued Yet Elevated

The compositions on Signs range from subdued and subterranean to elevated and remote. The music is attuned to the flickering sentience of outer spheres, capturing a feeling of cosmic vastness and distant resonance. The trio’s unique ability to merge electronic styles creates an immersive, ever-evolving soundscape that invites listeners to lose themselves in the deep, atmospheric layers of their compositions.
